The rest of this policy explains the details.
This Privacy Policy explains how 3MD FAMILY (PTY) LTD (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use the MinteCalc mobile application (the “App”) on iOS or Android. We are a private company registered in South Africa (registration number 2024/568768/07), with our registered office at 8 Scholtz Street, Musina, Limpopo, 0900, South Africa. We are the “controller” (or “responsible party”) of the personal information described here. You can reach us, including our Information Officer under South Africa’s POPIA, at support@mintecalc.com. Our Information Officer is also our privacy contact for Brazil and the person in charge of protecting personal information under Canadian and Quebec law.
By using the App, you acknowledge that you have read this policy. Where the law requires your consent for a particular activity, we ask for it separately, and you can withdraw it at any time.
Your calculations, calculation history, notes (item names, prices, and quantities), and settings are stored locally on your device. We never receive your calculations or notes. Some app settings are included in a diagnostics file only if you choose to send us feedback or a bug report (see Section 3.4).
Your content can leave your device only in ways you choose:
appDataFolder) in your own Google Drive. See Section 5.To use Google Drive Sync (or to delete your backup without Pro), you sign in with Google. Google handles the sign-in, so we never see your Google password. Google’s Firebase Authentication service then keeps a minimal sign-in reference (the App calls this your “MinteCalc account”): your email address, display name, profile photo URL, and a unique user ID. The App also keeps your name, email address, and photo on your device to show which account is signed in, and stores the sign-in tokens it uses for Google Drive (an access token and a refresh token) in your device’s secure storage. This information is used only to keep you signed in and connect you to your own backup. You can remove it at any time with “Delete Data & Sign Out” in the App, whether or not you have Pro. If you are signed out and no longer have Pro, you can still sign in on the same screen to do this (see our Account and Data Deletion page). You can also sign out at any time with “Sign Out,” with or without Pro. If a sign-in reference has not been used to sign in for 2 years, we delete it in a review we carry out at least once a year (see Section 8).
| Category | What it includes | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Crash and diagnostic data | Crash logs, stack traces, device model, OS version, app version, and basic app state. If a Google Drive backup fails while you are signed in, the report for that error, and later reports from the same session, may include your pseudonymous user ID (never your email address). | To find and fix bugs |
| Analytics data (only with your permission) | Which features are used, session length, in-app events, device and app version, approximate region | To understand and improve the App |
| Advertising data (free version) | Advertising identifier (where permitted), device information, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, and ad interactions | To show ads, measure them, and prevent ad fraud |
| Purchase data | App store receipt, a random app user ID, and basic device information | To confirm your Pro purchase and restore it on other devices |
| Notification token | A push token from Firebase Cloud Messaging, created when the App starts. It is used to send you notifications only if you allow them | To deliver notifications |
| App configuration | Firebase installation ID | To deliver settings and features without an app update |
The App does not request access to your precise (GPS) location, contacts, photos, camera, or microphone.
You are not required by law to give us personal information. Signing in, analytics, notifications, personalized ads, and emailing us are optional. If you skip them, you can still use the rest of the App. Google Drive Sync needs Google Sign-In, and buying Pro needs your app store purchase details. Crash and diagnostic data, the Firebase installation ID (used to deliver app settings), and, in the free version, advertising data are collected automatically while you use the App, to keep it working reliably and to fund the free version.
If you use “Feedback” or “Report Bug” in the App’s settings, the App opens an email for you to review before sending. It attaches a diagnostics file containing:
The file does not contain your calculations, notes, or Google account details. You can review the email and remove the attachment before sending. Feedback goes to support@mintecalc.com and bug reports go to bugreport@mintecalc.com. If you use the “Email” contact option, the email includes your app version, device, and platform, and goes to contact@mintecalc.com. We use what you send only to answer you and fix problems.
| Purpose | Legal basis (where GDPR, UK GDPR, or similar laws apply) |
|---|---|
| Providing the App and its features, including Google Drive Sync, Pro, and Pro Lite | Performance of a contract with you |
| Crash reporting, security, and fixing bugs | Our legitimate interest in a stable and secure App |
| Analytics | Your consent |
| Personalized ads and use of your advertising identifier | Your consent, where required by law |
| Non-personalized ads in the free version | Our legitimate interest in funding the free version. In the European Economic Area (EEA), the UK, and Switzerland, we also ask for your consent before ads store or read information on your device, where the law or Google’s policies require it. If you do not consent, Google may still show “limited ads.” These are not personalized, and Google may store or read information on your device for them only to detect fraud and invalid ad traffic. You can object to these in the App under Settings → About & Privacy → Privacy Choices |
| Notifications such as backup reminders, tips, milestone messages, and subscription and billing notices | Our legitimate interest in keeping you informed about the App and your subscription. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings |
| Offers for MinteCalc Pro in notifications | Your consent, where the law requires it. Otherwise, our legitimate interest in telling you about MinteCalc Pro. You can turn off offers at any time in the App’s notification settings |
| Answering support requests | Our legitimate interest in helping you. Where your request is about your Pro purchase or the App’s features, performance of a contract with you |
| Accounting, tax, and legal compliance | Legal obligation |
We do not use your information to make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
drive.appdata permission. It can create, read, and delete its own backup files in a hidden folder, and cannot see any other files in your Google Drive. Google Sign-In also shares your basic profile (name, email address, and profile photo) with the App, as described in Section 3.2.You will still see ads in the free version if you decline personalization, but they will be less relevant to you. Learn more about how Google uses information for advertising.
If notifications are turned on for the App, it may send a welcome message, backup reminders, tips, milestone messages, reminders to come back to the App, subscription and billing notices, and offers for MinteCalc Pro. Some are scheduled on your device based on how you use the App, such as backup reminders and milestone messages. Others are sent through Firebase Cloud Messaging only to broad groups (all users, free users, or Pro users), not to you individually. You can turn off offers at any time in the App’s notification settings, and turn off all notifications in your device settings.
We do not sell personal information for money. We share information only with the providers below (including the advertising companies Google works with for AdMob) and in the other cases described later in this section. Most providers process information only on our behalf. Apple and Google also act under their own terms and privacy policies when they handle app downloads, payments, and Google Sign-In, when Google Fonts delivers a font, and when Google uses ad data from AdMob for its own purposes, such as improving its ad services. We work only with providers that protect your information at least as well as this policy describes and as Apple’s and Google’s app store rules require.
| Provider | Purpose | Privacy information |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase (Authentication, Analytics, Crashlytics, Cloud Messaging, Remote Config, Hosting) | Sign-in, analytics, crash reports, notifications, configuration, and delivery of currency rates | Firebase privacy |
| Google AdMob | Ads in the free version. Google may work with other advertising companies (ad partners) to show and measure ads. Where the App asks for your consent, the consent message lists them | Google privacy policy, How Google uses information from apps that use its services |
| Google Drive API | Your optional backup | Google privacy policy |
| Google Fonts | Downloads a display font when you choose one in the App (Google sees your IP address) | Google Fonts privacy |
| RevenueCat | Purchase and subscription validation | RevenueCat privacy policy |
| Apple App Store and Google Play | App distribution and payments | Apple, Google |
| Hostinger | Hosts our email, so it receives any email you send us | Hostinger privacy policy |
Currency rates: rates come from FXRatesAPI, a service of Saritra GmbH (Austria). Our own systems fetch them and publish them to the App through Firebase Hosting, so your device never contacts FXRatesAPI and none of your information is shared with them. Downloading the rates is an ordinary web request, so the hosting provider sees your IP address.
Payments: all payments are handled by Apple or Google. We never see your card details.
Links to other websites: the App links to some websites, such as our tutorials and the app stores. Their own privacy policies apply when you visit them.
We may also disclose information if required by law or legal process, to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users, the public, or us, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information). Information we receive from Google APIs (Google Sign-In and Google Drive) is transferred in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets only with your prior consent.
In the free version, AdMob and the advertising companies Google works with may use advertising identifiers and similar data to personalize ads. Some U.S. state laws (such as California’s CCPA/CPRA) may treat this as “sharing” for targeted advertising, or as a “sale.” You can opt out at any time, for free, in the App under Settings → About & Privacy → Privacy Choices. You can also limit ad tracking in your device settings: on iPhone, by not allowing the App to track you; on Android, by deleting your advertising ID. More details for U.S. residents are in Section 12.1.
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Content on your device | Until you delete it, clear the App’s storage, or uninstall the App |
| Your name, email address, and photo shown in the App | On your device, until you sign out (with “Sign Out” or “Delete Data & Sign Out”) or uninstall the App |
| Google Drive sign-in tokens (access and refresh tokens) | In your device’s secure storage, until you sign out (with “Sign Out” or “Delete Data & Sign Out”). On iPhone and iPad, they can stay on the device after you delete the App, so sign out first (see our Account and Data Deletion page) |
| Google Drive backup | Until you delete it with “Delete Data & Sign Out” or remove it from Google Drive yourself |
| Sign-in reference | Until you use “Delete Data & Sign Out” or ask us by email (we delete it within 30 days of your request). We also delete sign-in references that have not been used to sign in for 2 years, in a review we carry out at least once a year. This does not delete your Google Drive backup. If you still use Google Drive Sync and are signed out, sign in again to keep backing up |
| Crash reports | Up to 90 days, under Firebase Crashlytics’ standard retention |
| Analytics data | Under Google Analytics’ retention settings, and no longer than 14 months for detailed event data |

| Notification token | Until you uninstall the App, or until Firebase expires it after a long period without use |
| Firebase installation ID | On your device, until you uninstall the App. Firebase keeps its own copy of the ID until we ask Firebase to delete it. Crash reports and analytics data linked to it are kept for the periods above |
| IP addresses seen when the App downloads currency rates from Firebase Hosting or a font from Google Fonts | Kept by Google under its own retention rules, described in How Google retains data |
| Purchase records (held by RevenueCat) | As long as needed to keep your Pro access working, or until you ask us to delete them (we delete them within 30 days of your request; see our Account and Data Deletion page) |
| Our accounting and tax records of sales | Up to 7 years, as South African law requires |
| Support emails (including any diagnostics files) | Up to 2 years after your last message, unless you ask us to delete them sooner |
| Record of a deletion request | 3 years, to show that we handled it |
We are based in South Africa, and we read and answer support emails there. Our service providers process information in other countries:
These countries may have different data protection laws from yours. Where the law requires it, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards. For transfers to the United States, we rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, its UK Extension, and the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified under them (Google is). Otherwise, we rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, with the UK Addendum and the changes Swiss law requires, used by our providers. You can ask us for a copy of these safeguards at support@mintecalc.com.
Information sent between the App and our service providers is encrypted in transit. Backups are protected by your Google account. No system is completely secure, so please protect your devices and your Google account with strong passwords and two-step verification.
The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. In some countries the age is higher. For example, South Africa treats anyone under 18 as a child. If you are under 18 (or the age of majority where you live), please use the App only with your parent’s or guardian’s permission, as our Terms and Conditions require. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
These rights come from laws such as the EU and UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act and other U.S. state privacy laws, Brazil’s LGPD, Canada’s PIPEDA, South Africa’s POPIA, and similar laws worldwide.
Your right to object: where we rely on our legitimate interests (see Section 4), you can object at any time. For ads, use Settings → About & Privacy → Privacy Choices in the App, or email support@mintecalc.com. For anything else, email support@mintecalc.com.
How to make a request: email support@mintecalc.com. We may need to confirm your identity first, for example by asking you to write from the Google account you used to sign in. We will respond within the time the law requires (usually within 30 days). You may also use an authorized agent where your local law allows it. The agent should email us with your signed permission, and we may ask you to confirm your identity with us directly. We do not ask you to verify your identity to opt out of the sale or sharing of your information or of targeted advertising. For these opt-out requests, an authorized agent needs only your signed permission. If we decline your request, you can ask us to reconsider by replying to our response.
Complaints: you can complain to your local data protection authority. Examples include your EU or EEA supervisory authority, the UK Information Commissioner’s Office, and South Africa’s Information Regulator (enquiries@inforegulator.org.za). We would appreciate the chance to resolve your concern first.
This section applies where U.S. state privacy laws, such as California’s CCPA/CPRA, apply to us. In the past 12 months, we have collected these categories of personal information, as described in Section 3:
| Category | Examples | Disclosed to |
|---|---|---|
| Identifiers | Email address (if you email us or sign in with Google); name, profile photo URL, and user ID (only if you sign in with Google); advertising identifier; Firebase installation ID; random app user ID for purchases; IP address | Google (Firebase, AdMob, Drive, Fonts), advertising companies Google works with for AdMob, RevenueCat, Hostinger (our email provider) |

We may update this policy as the App changes or the law requires. We will post the new version on this page and update the “Last Updated” date. For significant changes, we will also let you know in the App.
